Parcel lockers made with the environment in mind
We are particularly pleased with the implementation of these projects, which aim to improve the flexibility and convenience of their users. So when the opportunity to cooperate on the concept of Allegro parcel lockers appeared on the horizon, we jumped at the chance.
In addition, the concept of Allegro parcel machines assumes limiting their negative impact on the environment. This is done by planting plants around the machines – wherever possible. These plants should cover the entire machine within two years from planting, which will reduce the local heat island effect. In addition, Allegro equips machines with air quality sensors and guarantees origin for energy from renewable sources, such as wind or water, for the purposes of power supply.
Our task
The main challenge that we faced was the design and visualisation of the parcel lockers. At each stage of our work, we had to keep in mind both the idea behind the project and the practical functionality of the lockers.
Thinking about space
Space played a key role in the project. We wanted the aesthetics of the parcel lockers to be universal and not to adversely affect the appearance of the local area. We knew that the best solution would be minimalistic and inspired by nature, in keeping with the latest trends in design. You can see the result below:
Space, however, is highly differentiated and comes with many barriers – the design of the parcel locker itself was a drop in the ocean of needs. From the very start of the project, we had to consider issues related to restrictions on potential locations (garages, underground, car parks), as well as the possibility for living greenery to grow.
In response to these challenges, we put together a guide for setting up the lockers and designed various versions of the bollards, vegetation and plant pots. We took into account that the machine could be, for example, against a wall, located in a typical neighbourhood, or in an area where access to soil is limited.
Getting down to detail
The idea of creating an environmentally friendly parcel machine involves the need to design practical functions of the device. So the next stage of the work was to create an animation visualising the locker opening mechanism.
We also designed stickers that inform the locker users that the work on planting vegetation is still in progress. We suggested a simple message and a minimalistic form:
Creating the perfect design for the parcel locker was a real challenge. As well as being satisfied with a job well done, we’re delighted that we were able to play our part in the implementation of such a worthwhile idea.
